Saying YES!

At the start of the year I had made a resolution to try say Yes more often, in order to do more and be more sociable. Just like the rest of the New year resolutions, I didn’t even try.  For some unknown reason, last weekend was different and of all weeks for me to do this was completely unexpected. As last week I had a terrible week in work and was so unmotivated for my personal life, I was just doom scrolling and rotting in bed, which normally carries over to the weekend, but last weekend I had a change of energy.

I think it was the sun. For the first time in a while the sun decided to make an appearance on Friday, so after work when I got a text from my friend suggesting going for a walk, I actually said Yes. Normally that would be my worst nightmare, doing anything sociable after work ? No way. I rushed home and as soon as I got in the door I changed into some acceptable clothing and suggested we actually walk to the pub and have a drink in the beer garden. It was great the place wasn’t too busy and we had a good catch up and I was able to switch off from work. We only stayed for 1 drink as I felt bad because my mom was home alone due to my dad and brother going on a boys trip. I stopped in the shop on the way home and got us a bottle of wine. When I home my mom offered to bring me to McDonalds for some dinner, obviously I said Yes. We had a great night of chatting and bonding.

The next morning I decided I would go into the office for a few hours and get some work done, it was my day off but i was so behind on work I  thought it would be best to catch up without any distractions. I only worked for about 3 hours but got a ton of work done, when I received a message from my mom asking me to go shopping with her at a new outlet. After some shopping i got a call from my friend inviting me to the cinema to watch the new Snow White movie. I honestly didn’t want to see it but my friend really wanted to go so I said Yes. I “accidentally”  ordered the XL popcorn and as you can see it was humongous, did I eat it all ? Yes. ( Snow White movie review coming soon !!).

Finally on Sunday, I went to meet my boyfriend who I hadn’t seen all week to conflicting schedules. Normally on Sundays, we are so exhausted from the week before and dreading the upcoming week, we just sit and watch TV all day, we don’t do many dates. This Sunday seemed to be shaping up to be like all Sundays until our friends who we always double date with texted us inviting us to play Pitch and Put. We said Yes. It was a great time and I got a bit of a tan!

At the close of Sunday I felt spontaneous and great! I felt like i was so productive and accepted in society as I actually left the house and made plans with people. I wasn’t too anxious about Monday and  everything I stressing about before was forgotten or  seemed miniature. I made so many memories and grew my relationships. I don’t think we as a society realise how important and impactful it is to leave the house and have human connections. I always spend the weekend just watching TV then fixating on work problems and feeling terrible on Sunday thinking I’ve wasted my weekend. This weekend I felt refreshed and that I had actually lived. I now plan to do the same every weekend so I can be happy and get my spark back for life.  I don’t know what was the cause of this change of heart or energy that motivated me to keep saying Yes, but I think it was the Sun. I guess to keep this up I’ll have to move !

I encourage you all this week to try say YES more and see how it changes your week. Leave a comment and tell me how you stay motivated ! Tell me how you got on with saying YES.
