Will Ho, a Taiwanese photographer, recently took a trip to the Maldives and discovered an incredible stretch of glowing blue coastline. This phenomenon, which some people refer to as “the sea of stars” actually results from bioluminescent phytoplankton living in the water that emit a glow when disturbed.
With the crashing of the waves, and a few footprints, this glow was beautifully captured in Ho’s photos below. You can see all of his work through his Flickr account or the original article via Colossal.
